We’re thrilled to share an exciting milestone in our lifesaving partnership with Dane County Humane Society (DCHS). On September 11, our Verona Adoption Center transformed into a mini-veterinary clinic for our very first on-site surgery day!
With two veterinarians, a certified veterinary technician, and 10 amazing Angel’s Wish volunteers, the DCHS Animal Medical Services team provided:
-
19 spay/neuter surgeries
-
Rabies vaccinations, blood draws, exams, and microchips for 14 more cats
Many of the cats cared for that day had just arrived at Angel’s Wish from a Wisconsin shelter struggling with severe overcrowding. Thanks to these surgeries and medical treatments, those cats can now move quickly into loving homes—and made space to welcome even more pets in need.
“This first on-site clinic is proof of how much more we can accomplish together,” shared Angel’s Wish board member Natalie Baldis. “By bringing members of DCHS’s trusted veterinary team to our facility, we’re able to reduce animals’ length of stay, provide faster access to care, and open space for more pets in need. It’s a huge win for animals, our shelter partners, and adopters alike.”
This new step builds on a veterinary partnership that began in 2023 through DCHS’s Shelter Support Program. That program already provides spay/neuter surgeries, dental care, specialized surgeries, and wellness exams for shelters and rescues across Wisconsin. By adding on-site surgery days at Angel’s Wish, together we can deliver care more efficiently, reduce travel stress for animals, and create a stronger safety net for shelters facing capacity challenges.
We are so grateful to our partners at DCHS, our dedicated volunteers, and our supporters who make it possible to keep innovating in the name of animal welfare. This first surgery day is just the beginning—we can’t wait to see how much more we can accomplish, together.
